Carrickfergus Town & Castle Tour

Discover more about Carrickfergus

Carrickfergus Castle is one of the best preserved Anglo Norman Castles in all Ireland, and was in use until the early 20th century as a military garrison. The town was once surrounded by walls, and though they no longer remain, the bells of St Nicolas’ Church still ring nightly at 21.00 – warning those inside the gates they are about to close. See some of the ancient locations of the old city, North Gate, Irish Gate, The Governor’s Palace, and hear about famous people connected with the town, such as King Fergus, John De Courcey, Arthur Chichester, Jonathan Swift, Prince William and his namesake King William of Orange.
